Производители ноутбуков начинают массово переходить на встраиваемую оперативную память, отказываясь от DIMM модулей. Таким образом, лэптопы на базе процессоров Apollo Lake могут стать ещё тоньше. Процессоры Apollo Lake, которые характеризуются 14 нм размером элементов, низким энергопотреблением, неплохой производительностью и малыми размерами, увеличивают свою популярность, а вместе с тем конструкторы лэптопов переходят к впаиванию микросхем памяти непосредственно в материнскую плату.

Такой шаг позволит производителям сделать ноутбуки ещё тоньше. Количество ноутбуков, использующих LPDDR4, также увеличилось, поскольку производители продолжают прикладывать усилия по минимизации энергопотребления, увеличению производительности и увеличению срока автономной работы.

В качестве примера приведены ультратонкие ноутбуки Acer Aspire S 15 и S 17, которые имеют толщину менее 17 мм. Другие же производители, включая Lenovo, Asustek Computer, HP и Dell, во втором полугодии также должны сфокусироваться на ультратонких моделях и устройствах 2-в-1.

Notebook vendors have largely moved to on-board memory designs and are killing off DIMMs so that they can make their Intel Apollo Lake-based notebooks as slim as possible.

According to Digitimes shipments of Intel's 14nm Apollo Lake CPUs, which feature low-power consumption, high performance and reduced sizes are apparently on the increase and with that a move to on board memory designs. The reason is that the manufactures think an anorexic look is super fashionable.

Numbers of new notebooks using LPDDR4 has also increased as vendors have continued to make efforts to minimize power consumption, improve performance, and prolong battery life.

Acer has two new ultra-thin notebooks, the Aspire S 15 and S 17, both featuring a thickness of less than 17mm. Other vendors, including Lenovo, Asustek Computer, HP and Dell are also expected to focus on ultra-thin notebooks and 2-in-1 models for the second half of 2016.
