Intel Cannonlake будет на 15% быстрее Kaby Lake

Intel i7 8th Generation to be >15% faster than 7th Generation

Intel is slated to unveil its eighth-generation Cannonlake hardware sometime later this year, and in an investor meeting held earlier this month, the vendor has announced that Cannonlake will be 15% faster than the current-gen Kaby Lake. Intel didn’t share any performance figures, instead basing its statements on a SysMark benchmark.

Given that Kaby Lake wasn’t necessarily faster than the outgoing Skylake, Intel needs to offer a tangible boost in overall performance from Cannonlake for it to be a viable upgrade from Kaby Lake (or even Skylake). Cannonlake SKUs will make their debut in the latter half of 2017, and with AMD all set to unveil Ryzen later this year, Intel’s upcoming products will face scrutiny the likes of which we haven’t seen for over a decade.

The slide deck referencing the performance increase is titled, “Advancing Moore’s Law on 14 nm,” showing that Cannonlake will also be based on a 14nm node. That said, it is likely Intel will rely on higher clocks to boost the performance from Kaby Lake, and as such it isn’t too outlandish to assume the higher-end processors in the eighth-generation family will be able to hit 5GHz either out of the box or via overclocks.
